Blankenfelde Manor Bell Museum

The private collection of Valdis Jākobsons contains around 1000 bells of different origin, history, age, shape and materials, and since June 2014 this collection is exhibited in the stable area of the restored Blankenfelde Manor.

Valdis Jākobsons bought his first bell already in 1978 in Cologne, Germany in a Sunday fair for 10 Deutsche Marks. At that time, he did not even imagine that it will be the beginning of such a huge collection and that bells will become his hobby and fascination for such a long time. Colleagues who were with him that sunny Sunday in Cologne, tried to stop him from such an unreasoned action and wasting money. At that time, 10 Deutsche Marks were quite a large sum of money for a Soviet person. For example, for 10 Deutsche Marks you could buy the big hamburger and a glass of good German beer. But that day's choice fell for the bell instead of a glass of beer. From now on Valdis brought a bell from each trip became resulting in a colourful and vivid collection.

The collection consists of bells of different shapes and sizes of metal, porcelain, ceramic and glass bells, both ancient and made to honour a special event. The collection offers elegant figure bells, door, table and wind bells, there are sleigh bells, gongs, candlesticks and even beer cup, which is equipped with a bell to get the cup refilled quicker. Each bell has its own story of reaching Blankenfelde, some of them are very funny. Some of these life stories are also available in the exhibition, since the origins of each bell are carefully documented. If you are lucky, the collector Valdis Jākobsons will tell these stories himself.

Upon a prior arrangement gourmet tasting can also be organised in Blankenfelde Manor.
