Zemgale Restoration Centre

Since 2 January 2023, Zemgale Restoration Centre has employed three restorers specialising in metal, textile and glass/ceramic restoration. The workshops are used to collect and restore objects from the collection of Ģederts Eliass History and Art Museum of Jelgava. However, the Restoration Centre also offers outsourced services, which means that every resident of Jelgava City and municipality, including regional museums, can already receive advice on the storage, maintenance and restoration of various objects.

Objects that can be restored vary from those that are precious to the individual and remain as a treasured memento, to those that may not be great works of art but are important to the owner. However, the objects must correspond to the specialisation of the restorer – ceramics/glass/porcelain; textiles; metal objects, paintings and icons. The specialists of the Restoration Centre already advise on the maintenance of coins and paintings at home and assess, for instance, the costs of restoring a broken porcelain cup.

A pricelist of services is available in the Services section of Ģederts Eliass History and Art Museum of Jelgava; however, the costs of services will be drawn up individually for each object.

The Zemgale Centre is open to the general public during the European Heritage Days (September), when an educational programme is offered for both adults and children (starting from grade 4)!

The educational programme includes a tour of the centre and the opportunity to try one restoration process of your choice in one of our workshops – metal or ceramics:

  • clean a simple metal object or
  • restore (glue) your own ceramic/glass bowl (max. 5 people)
  • the duration of a workshop is 1.5 to 2 hours

For consultations on the care and restoration of objects, please contact the Head of the Restoration Department, Saiva Kuple, in advance by calling (+371) 63021855 or by sending an e-mail to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
