26. Vispārējie Latvijas Piena, Maizes un Medus svētki

On 29 August, from 10:00 to 16:00, the 26th General Latvian Milk, Bread and Honey Festival, the 24th Latvian Regional Cheese Day, and the Sweet Tooth Festival will take place at Duke Jacob’s Square, Krišjāņa Barona Street, and the square behind the Jelgava Culture House.

The year’s tastiest celebration will bring together bakers, beekeepers, dairy producers and food lovers from all over Latvia, offering a diverse cultural programme, tastings, competitions, activities, and a wide market featuring products from home producers and craftspeople.

Stage in the Green Area of Duke Jacob’s Square

  • 10:00 – Concert by the “Diždancis” folk dance ensemble of JVPI “Kultūra”.
  • 11:00 – Concert by the ethnographic group “Ogas”.
  • 13:00 – Concert by the group “Laimas muzykanti”.

Throughout the day, Duke Jacob’s Square will host the Sweet Tooth Festival, where confectionery producers from all over Latvia will offer their products, delighting sweet lovers of all ages.

Square Behind the Jelgava Culture House – 24th Latvian Regional Cheese Day

  • 10:00–16:00 – Grand market featuring more than 75 varieties of cheese, tastings and sales.
  • 10:00 – Festival opening and presentation of Ministry of Agriculture awards to dairy-processing companies.
  • 11:00 – Visit to culinary heritage communities from Vidzeme, Latgale, Kurzeme and Zemgale, featuring a traditional feast prepared by local hosts with 75 dishes.
  • 12:00 – Ceremony to crown the new Cheese King with the ceremonial changing of the Jāņi cheese crown, followed by treats for festival guests featuring a 75 kg cheese wheel.
  • 12:00 – Creative workshop “The Taste Surprise of Cheese Paintings”.
  • From 12:30 – Regional concert programme:
    • “Speiga” folklore group from Ambeļi, Upper Daugava Municipality;
    • singer and accordionist Indra Kumsāre from Vidzeme;
    • “Pill tin” folklore group from Piltene, Ventspils Municipality;
    • the Grīnhofs family from Ogre Technical School.
  • 13:30 – Regional hosts’ skills competitions – “Churning Butter”, “Transparent Cheese Slice”, “Dancing with Cheese” and more.
  • 14:00 – “Jelgavas stiprinieks” (“Jelgava Strongman”) competition – lifting 15 kg blocks of cheese.
  • 15:00 – Concert by the group “GINC un ES”.

As part of Latvian Regional Cheese Day, an exhibition of the best paintings from the “Still Life with Cheese” competition will be displayed in the first-floor foyer of the Jelgava Culture House.

An essential part of the festival will also be the Bread Tent, where the Latvian Bakers’ Association, together with students and teachers of Jelgava Vocational Secondary School, will celebrate the 50th anniversary of AS “Dobeles Dzirnavnieks”, a long-standing cooperation partner. Visitors can take part in activities about bread and baking, learn about the company’s history and products, participate in quizzes and competitions with prizes, and enjoy a festive anniversary cake and traditional rye bread soup. Special prizes will also be prepared for visitors who arrive at the Bread Tent with a prepared birthday greeting for AS “Dobeles Dzirnavnieks”.

The Latvian Beekeepers’ Association tent will also be open during the festival, offering visitors an opportunity to discover the world of bees and the work of a beekeeper. Guests will be able to see a bee colony and learn about life inside a hive, taste different varieties of honey, take part in competitions and vote for the tastiest honey, as well as receive informational materials and ask questions of experienced beekeepers.

Throughout the event, visitors are invited to enjoy the richness of Latvia’s culinary heritage, take part in tastings, competitions and other activities, and purchase delicacies and products from local producers.

Sports Events

  • 11:00 – Jelgava Open 3×3 Basketball Tournament, Stage 2 (Zemgale Olympic Centre).
  • Electronic registration is open from 24 August until 19:00 on 27 August. To register, email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with the team name and information about each player (first name, surname, date of birth). Participants aged 15 and over must also have a 3×3 player profile created on the FIBA 3×3 website.
  • 11:00 – Jelgava Open Beach Volleyball Tournament, Stage 5 (Pasta Island).
  • Participation is free of charge. Register from 24 August until 22:00 on 28 August by completing the registration form. Registration on the day of the competition is also possible on site until 10:45, with a participation fee of €10 per team.
  • From 12:00 – Latvian Open Water Powerboat Championship, Stage 4 (Lielupe Promenade).
  • Speed, water and an exciting atmosphere will bring together Latvia’s, the Baltics’ and other countries’ fastest pilots competing in various boat classes. Spectators will have the opportunity to watch adrenaline-filled races, meet the athletes and see a variety of speedboats.

Throughout the day, visitors will be welcomed by a rich festival programme offering something for everyone – from food tastings and a craft market to concerts and sports competitions.
